If you are thinking about or have recently purchased an EV, congratulations! We are here to help you learn more about charging it.
Home Charging
If you are lucky enough to have off street parking then purchasing a home charger will save you a fortune in the long run. There are now off peak charging tariffs that can be used with a “smart charger” to charge your EV fully for as little as £5 or £6.
Smart Chargers – These costs from £400 installed
Smart Charging tariffs. Range from 5p per kWh upwards. (Standard rate is 25p per kWh).
Public Chargers (AC)
Your car should be fitted with an on board charger that will convert the AC energy from the charger to DC into the battery. These range from 3kw – 22kw and will take between 3 and 12 hours to charge your car.
You will generally find these slower chargers at destinations such as supermarkets and car parks. There are also more AC street bollard and lamppost units coming where you can leave your vehicle.
DC Fast Charging
These are rapid charging units found at service stations and some garages. They range from 50KW DC up to 350 KW DC and can charge your battery to 80% in as little as 15 minutes.
The cost for these vary and its worth checking the price before you charge. Prices range from 40p per kWh to 93p per kWH (£40 – £80 for a full charge)
